ANPR camera goes live February 17 at Neville’s Cross junction on A167, targeting yellow box violations.

An ANPR camera starts monitoring February 17. It will watch for yellow box junction violations. Councillors funded this project. It targets people breaking the Highway Code.
The Highway Code says keep yellow boxes clear. Do not enter if your exit isn’t open. Right-turning drivers have an exception. Oncoming traffic must hold them up.
Breaking these rules gets you a £70 fine. It’s a Penalty Charge Notice. Councillors Scott and Brown contributed £21,311. They used Area Action Partnership funds.
Craig Morgan spoke about the junction. He’s Durham County Council’s AAP coordinator. He says the A167 is very busy. Expect traffic jams during commute times.
Stopping in the yellow box causes problems.
It worsens traffic and blocks emergency routes. This project should improve traffic flow. It will also help pedestrians crossing. School kids and families will especially benefit.
