Beaminster Tunnel is now open again after being closed for a week for road maintenance and repairs by Dorset Council.

This detour added a lot of driving time, making quick trips last an hour and a half longer. Luckily, the road is open again, and crews are removing the detour signs now.
The work included several important repairs. Workers fixed manhole covers and pipes. They also patched potholes in the road, which made driving safer for everyone.
During the closure, workers also cleaned the tunnel thoroughly. They trimmed trees and fixed signs. Additionally, crews cleared ditches along the road.
The council picked half term carefully to avoid school traffic. This timing reduced disruption for buses and students, as a single closure was more efficient. The council could finish faster this way.
Shorter closures would have disrupted travel longer. They are grateful for everyone’s patience, as this maintenance work was very important.
The closed part was near Beaminster Tunnel, stretching 270 meters to Buckham Down Road. The road closure started on February 17th and finished on February 21st.
