A346 closure in Marlborough causes HGV detour issues, impacting residents and traffic flow. Road reopens Feb 21.

Drivers should take the A4 through Beckhampton; that’s the official detour. Some drivers aren’t using this route and big trucks are going through town instead, causing trouble for people living there.
People worried trucks would use Kingsbury Street, as that road isn’t good for big vehicles. Wiltshire Council told drivers to avoid it and there were long traffic lines on the A346 on Monday, February 17.
Nick Holder, who is in charge of highways, talked about the road closure. He said drivers must use the proper detour, so that problems stay small. Some drivers ignored signs this past weekend, and it annoyed local people.
The council now checks all the road signs, making sure they match the plan that came from Openreach. Incorrect signs will get fixed and contractors may face action if needed.
The road closure happened during half-term, so traffic should be lighter now. Still, people must use the detour, reducing problems for everyone around. Openreach repairs an underground thing between St Martins and the A4. The council also works on a crosswalk while the road is closed and will use temporary lights the week of February 24, improving the pedestrian crossing.
