Overnight closures start tonight between Wisbech and King’s Lynn for A47 speed camera install. Expect detours.

They will lower speed limits from 60 mph. Some areas will drop to 50 mph, or even 40 mph. This plan will reduce road accidents, as National Highways wants fewer deaths and injuries.
These cameras will be between Peterborough and King’s Lynn. They plan to put up twenty average-speed cameras. New signs will also be installed along the route.
The speed limit changes affect these areas: Welland Road roundabout to Oversley Lodge changes from 60 to 50 mph; Thorney New Cut roundabout to Thorney Toll goes from 60 to 50 mph; Thorney Toll village will change from 60 to 40 mph; Thorney Toll to Guyhirn goes from 60 to 50 mph.
Similarly, Guyhirn to Wisbech reduces from 60 to 50 mph; Shoreboat Roundabout to Pullover roundabout: 60 to 50 mph. Expect long detours overnight due to the road work.
They expect this project to finish by the wintertime. Wisbech to King’s Lynn should be done by May. Guyhirn to Wisbech should wrap up between May and July. Peterborough to Guyhirn should be done July to November.
The road work will mostly happen on weekday nights. Work hours are usually 8 PM to 6 AM, weather permitting. Closures will be in place overnight during the work. Drivers should plan for extra travel time.
The first detour affects Wisbech to King’s Lynn. Eastbound traffic will use the A1101 at Wisbech. Then, use the A1101 and A1122 to the A10. Rejoin the A47 at the Hardwick Roundabout.
Westbound traffic follows this detour in reverse. All laybys between Elm High Road and Pullover Roundabout will close. These closures last for the whole project.
