New cameras are coming to the A47. They are average-speed cameras. Installation started this Monday, and road closures will happen at night until November.

This project costs six million pounds. It intends to make the A47 safer for drivers and local residents. Speed limits will decrease, dropping from 60mph to 50mph and sometimes 40mph.

The goal is to lower traffic accidents. National Highways wants fewer deaths or serious injuries and are working on the main road network. The work should finish by wintertime.

Workers will install twenty cameras on the A47. These are average-speed cameras on the section between Peterborough and King’s Lynn.

Speed limits change in some locations. The A47 Welland Road to Lodge roundabout changes from 60mph to 50mph. Also, the Thorney New Cut to Thorney Toll changes from 60mph to 50mph. Thorney Toll village itself changes from 60mph to 40mph.

Thorney Toll to Guyhirn changes too, going from 60mph to 50mph. Guyhirn to Wisbech also changes, making that section 50mph as well. The Shoreboat Roundabout to Pullover changes, going from 60mph to 50mph and night diversions will be in place during work.

The first phase finishes in May, covering the Wisbech to King’s Lynn stretch. Then, Guyhirn to Wisbech happens from May to July, with Peterborough to Guyhirn following from July to November.

The work will be on weekday nights. The work is usually from 8 PM to 6 AM, and closures at night will occur, so drivers should plan for more travel time.

A diversion route exists for the first phase. This is for A47 eastbound traffic, going onto A1101 at Wisbech Roundabout until May 1. Follow A1101 and A1122 to the A10. Rejoin the A47 at Hardwick Roundabout. Westbound traffic uses the same route, following it in reverse.

All laybys close during the work between Wisbech and King’s Lynn for the whole project.
