Aldi’s proposed Aberystwyth store faces continued delays. Flood concerns persist despite efforts by Aldi and local representatives.

Now, the site is boarded up, and people think it makes the town look bad. Aldi didn’t have any new updates to share, stating they’d make a press release later.
Last year, Aldi stated they wanted a store in the town and they work with Natural Resources Wales on flood risks. Aldi said roadblocks hurt their efforts back in June of last year, also stating the store could create 40 jobs and called the planning slow.
Natural Resources Wales said they awaited data and got information from Aldi in June 2023. They planned to check the flood model as the Minister blocked it due to flooding risks.
She said a flood event could not be managed and she felt that the climate objective would not come to fruition. Elin Jones is working with Aldi now, but obstacles remain as she wants jobs and development for Aberystwyth.
