Alan Webber, 54, avoided jail time with community service after sending a child indecent images. He must also adhere to notification rules.
The victim’s statement said Webber made her feel sick. She felt stressed out and very anxious. Telling her mom was too hard, as the girl felt like she stressed her mom out. She had a meltdown in class after the incident. Now, she hopes things get better soon.
The victim’s mom shared her own impact statement. She said grooming a 14-year-old is awful, and learning about intimate pictures was very upsetting. She felt someone betrayed her daughter’s trust. This betrayal has lasting effects, she fears.
Webber’s lawyer called it an isolated case. He claimed Webber was drunk at the time, jobless, and in a bad situation. Now, Webber uses medication for depression and also takes medicine to help with his anxiety. He feels sorry about his actions.
The court gave Webber an 18-month community order. He has to complete 30 days of rehab and needs to do 200 hours of unpaid work. He got a break for pleading guilty early.
Webber also has to pay court costs, including a £114 surcharge. He also owes £85 for prosecution costs. The total amount is £199 he needs to pay.
Webber must also follow notification rules. He has three days to give the police info, including his name, birthday, and NI number. He must also share bank details and his address. Webber is required to notify for five years.
If Webber plans to travel abroad, he must tell the police seven days ahead. A hearing about a Sexual Harm Prevention Order is coming, scheduled for March 4 at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court at 10am.
