Alcester Academy is helping save lives. Students and staff are turning the school red. They hope to raise money for a defibrillator. It will be placed on the Alcester Park estate.

The effort honors Julie Bennett’s husband, Clive. He died suddenly from a heart attack last November. Clive was a football coach for Alcester Town. He supported players and raised funds for the club. The academy supports a Go Fund Me campaign for Clive.

So far, it has raised £3,600. The school held a fundraising day on Valentine’s Day, aiming for more donations. Students donated £2 to wear red clothes instead of uniforms. Prizes went to those with the most creative outfits. Buckets collected loose change around the school.

Year 11 captains and Year 7 STEM ambassadors sold heart badges. Valentine’s Day cakes sold during breaks. A competition guessed sweets in a jar. Parents donated at the school gates. STEM ambassadors made and sold heart badges for £2 to £2.50 each, and the team has raised £420 already.

Clive grew up in Bidford and met Julie in 1985. They moved to Alcester in 1988. They married in 1991 and had three kids: Shannon, Cameron, and Tom. Clive worked at Walls and Ceilings International for 21 years. His colleagues saw him as committed, a good friend, and a mentor to many.

Clive coached Alcester Town players aged six to sixteen. His team won many trophies during his coaching tenure. The club considered Clive a vital part of their team. Clive’s family was linked to the club. Cameron manages and plays on Sundays, Tom played before, and Shannon and Julie supported them. Clive’s funeral was on December 18.

Headteacher Sarah Mellors said they keep Julie informed, as she works in learning support at the school. Everyone supports the cause, with her consent. Clive was well-known. Julie is happy the school supports the campaign. A STEM group raised over £420, and parents donated through the Go Fund Me page.

The school taught students the importance of defibrillators. Students, parents, and governors offered their full support. They hope to raise funds for a second one. The tragedy was difficult for the school. Julie has worked there for many years, and Clive worked in Alcester for 21 years, making the family well-known in town.

Many staff knew Julie for a long time. Additionally, her children attended the school. Staff felt sadness, but turned it into something positive. They wanted to support the family.
