Former RAF Lossiemouth commander, Alistair Monkman, will succeed Seymour Monro as Moray’s Lord Lieutenant in May.

Alistair Monkman will be Moray’s new Lord-Lieutenant. He is a former RAF Lossiemouth commander. He takes over from Seymour Monro in May. Monro is retiring after five years.

The role involves royal visits and awards. He will also support local groups. Alistair Monkman is 61 years old and holds the rank of Air Commodore. He lives in Garmouth with his wife, Sandy, a retired radiologist.

Monkman is honored to represent Moray, thanking Seymour for his service. He looks forward to serving the communities.

He earned his pilot’s license at 17 and joined the RAF in 1985. He flew Tornados for 27 years, logging over 500 combat hours over Iraq, Serbia, and Afghanistan. He earned multiple awards for his service.

Monkman moved to Moray in 2003. He led 617 Squadron at Lossiemouth and later commanded the entire base. He became a CBE in 2010.

He chairs the Moray Emergency Relief Fund and is also an assessor for a foundation. He enjoys cycling and hill walking, having done long walks since 2012. Deer management is his passion. As such, he directs the British Deer Society.

Seymour Monro congratulated Monkman. He knew him as the base commander, and they worked together on the relief fund. Monkman has been a deputy lieutenant, and Monro believes he will be excellent.
