Anglian Water opposes the Cambridge Science Park redevelopment due to wastewater capacity concerns and potential pollution risks.

The Fenway project fits growth plans for the Oxford-Cambridge area. Anglian Water has serious concerns about the project. It says their plant can’t handle more waste. They’ve asked for a permit to deal with excess flow.
Anglian Water might need to upgrade its local plant. This upgrade would be costly and take a long time. The developer would pay for the entire plant upgrade. Anglian Water objects to connecting to their sewer system, citing capacity issues and pollution risks.
Their long-term plan involves moving the sewage plant to a new location at Honey Hill. Government approval is needed for this relocation. A decision is now delayed until April 14th.
Brockton Everlast wants to redevelop the Science Park, aiming to create a place for everyone to use. They want to tear down six old buildings. They say new construction would make it more sustainable. One recently updated building would stay.
Sixty-four percent of the site would be green space. The remaining thirty-six percent would be buildings.
Brockton says the government wants growth in Cambridge. They say they need sustainable spaces to boost innovation. The Fenway will meet demand for labs and offices. It helps science businesses grow over time. They promise an open space for all.
The buildings will have labs, offices, and ground-floor activity. Open space will cover 6.5 acres of the area. This project hopes to be eco-friendly for science spaces.
A conservation group dislikes the project’s design. They describe the buildings as “giant inelegant boxes”. The group wants more variety in building height and innovative architecture. From afar, they say, the buildings will look like one.
Anglian Water also objects to housing in South Cambridgeshire. They say they cannot connect any more homes because Foxton Water Recycling Centre is nearing capacity. It would violate environmental laws to add further connections.
