Ingus Bermanis is accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend and threatening her life. Bail denied due to violence risk.

The judge said no bail for Bermanis, citing past violent crimes. He’s also accused of choking her, and allegedly threatened to kill her.
The woman said they argued because Bermanis thought she cheated on him. She says he punched her chest, which made her fall and hit a radiator. She showed police bruises on her chest.
She said he tried to strangle her next after her head hit the radiator. She claims he threatened her later that night, allegedly saying he would kill her. She believed that threat, she stated, but the next day, she said things seemed normal.
Police didn’t want him released, fearing he’d skip court again. He had two arrest warrants before, and his past violence worried them too.
Bermanis’ lawyer spoke to the court, saying Bermanis lived there for years. He lived openly, not hiding from anyone, and police found him easily.
The lawyer said Bermanis messed up by missing court dates. He now knows he should have been there. The judge disagreed with releasing him.
She worried he wouldn’t show up, stating that the warrants proved that. She also feared he would hurt someone again as he had prior violent charges. The case continues on March 4.
