Plans propose demolishing Hurst Lodge School to build a ten bedroom mansion with luxury amenities and staff housing.
The new mansion would be very grand. It would have ten bedrooms inside, with two master suites. The suites would contain big closets and their own bathrooms. An eleven-car garage would have three flats for staff.
Downstairs, it would have an indoor pool. Expect a jacuzzi, sauna, and a steam room, as well as a pool bar. Inside are fancy living and dining rooms, a media room, and two kitchens.
Upstairs are ten bedrooms and three staff flats. Find an outdoor terrace with a small pool. The top floor will have a two-lane bowling alley, a bar, a lounge, and a theatre.
Outside, they will keep the old pool. They will add two padel tennis courts. The plans show a big garden with fountains, as well as an outdoor kitchen and fire pit.
Local council members will vote soon on Thursday, March 6. They will decide if the plans are OK.
Planning officers advise that the council say no. They think one large house is not a good use and it will not help with housing needs.
However, four neighbors support the project and asked the council to approve it.
Neighbors think a mansion suits the area better. They say it has large homes and green spaces. This mansion would improve the look of the street and keep up the area’s living standards.
Neighbors said they want a single house, and they feel this is best for the site. They worry more homes will add traffic and overload an already busy street. They say there is little public transit nearby and much of the road lacks sidewalks.
More homes could hurt the green space. Also, a neighbor states added homes would make the road riskier. He opposes intense building for this reason; his home’s nature would suffer a lot as it is in fields and woods.
