Hertfordshire Zoo welcomes two Asiatic lions, Sonika and Sahee, to their newly renovated habitat, Lions of India.

They’ll live in Lions of India. The zoo renovated it for their specific needs. This habitat was carefully designed over several months.
These lions are coming from Kent. Did you know it’s from The Big Cat Sanctuary? It’s the zoo’s sister charity.
Sahee and Sonika will arrive soon. They’re replacing Moto, Izulu and Zuri. The other lions went to the sanctuary last year. You can see Sonika and Sahee in 2025.
Hertfordshire Zoo, formerly Paradise Wildlife Park, invites everyone. Asiatic lions are different. They’re from Gir National Park in India. That area has hot summers and mild winters. The area also contains woods and rocky areas.
There are only 700 of these lions left. This makes them vulnerable to extinction.
The zoo recreated their natural habitat. Their new space has lookout spots. It also includes foliage and hidden areas. They even put in extra heaters. This helps them stay comfortable in the UK. TukTuks add a fun Indian touch. These give the lions something to explore.
