The Attorney General made an announcement. The Southport child killer’s jail time remains; they will not send it to a higher court. This reviews sentences deemed too light.

Axel Rudakubana is eighteen now. He got 52 years minimum in January. He murdered three girls last July at a dance class that had a Taylor Swift theme.

Many people questioned the sentence. A family affected criticized it and Members of Parliament spoke out. They also want changes in the law.

Rudakubana was seventeen then. He murdered Alice da Silva Aguiar, aged nine, and Bebe King, aged six. Elsie Dot Stancombe was also killed; she was seven. He tried to murder eight other children, whose identities the law protects. He also attacked Leanne Lucas and John Hayes.

He received a very long prison term; it is one of the longest ever given for an attack of this kind.

Lord Hermer KC spoke Friday about many requests from people who wanted review of the sentence. This would be under the lenient sentence scheme, which fixes big errors by judges.

He considered legal advice carefully. He consulted with barristers and the CPS. He decided against sending the case up, so the case will not go to the Court of Appeal.
