A 74-year-old driver caused a crash near Auldearn, leading to severe injuries for a motorcyclist. Driver admitted careless driving.

This occurred near Auldearn on September 6, 2023. The court learned about Macrae, age 74, who drove a white Vauxhall van heading east.
Macrae pulled into a roadside area to let a car pass. It was said that Macrae drove slowly. A witness saw the biker who was driving west over the hill.
Macrae pulled out and the biker tried to avoid the van, but he failed, and they crashed. The biker landed on the road, feeling much pain but still breathing.
A doctor drove by and helped until paramedics came. The biker was then taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, where he was found to have severe pelvic fractures.
Macrae admitted careless driving, which caused serious injury. His lawyer showed accident photos demonstrating the car’s rear was over the center line.
The lawyer said Macrae was at fault for driving below standard. Macrae, who had driven for 55 years, now has his license cancelled. The Sheriff fined Macrae £680 and disqualified him from driving for one year.
