Recycle Ayr did a test earlier this month. A big box filled up fast, holding over 7,500 blister packs. The box overflowed within one hour.

They didn’t tell many people about it, yet the public response still surprised Recycle Ayr. People liked the idea of a local blister pack service.

Recycle Ayr wants a local place to recycle blister packs. A spokesperson said they feel let down by the lack of facilities. The group believes drug companies should help because big companies profit by selling their products.

Companies should recycle containers themselves. Blister packs are hard to recycle because the materials cost more to recycle than they are worth. So, recycling blister packs is difficult and expensive.

The group plans to speak to local members of Parliament. Recycle Ayr is run by volunteers and began over two years ago.

They meet on the first Saturday of each month at Newton Primary School. They want to cut down on waste and recycle, upcycle, and reuse donations.

The group wants to benefit people in Ayrshire and beyond. People bring unwanted items to help others.

The group also aids Wallacetown’s community. Recycle Ayr gives furniture, clothes, and house items. They collect items to help charities raise money too, which are sold for cash donations.
