Babul’s restaurants in Darlington and Barnard Castle listed in prestigious British Curry Guide, honoring their legacy.

They used to be named Spice Island. Babul’s became their name back in 2019. The restaurant won awards this year, in 2024. The Northern Echo picked them as best curry house.
Rafique Uddin Babul was the founder. Curry Life Magazine called him a “Curry Legend.” They gave him this award in London. It happened on October 13th. The staff feel really honored by this.
Shuhel Ahmed owns Babul’s now. He said it shows their food and drinks are great. He runs both locations. The quality is important.
Babul’s is named after their dad. He passed away last year, in 2023. Their father taught them everything. He changed South Asian food in the North East. They dedicate this to him.
Their goal is still great food. They want loyal customers to have fun. They hope new people try Babul’s too. They want you to experience it.
Zak Ahmed said it’s the “cherry on top.” Babul’s won Restaurant of the Year from ARTA. People picked them for Best Curry House too. It was through The Northern Echo.
Their father got a special award. He received the Curry Legend Award. Curry Life Magazine gave it after he passed. Zak thanked their customers and team. They made Babul’s a top spot.
