Amey names gritters for Transport Scotland. They named one “Brrr…Nanaman,” honoring Beano’s superhero, Bananaman. This gritter joins 56 others covering 400 miles of road, running from Glasgow to Dumfries.

Amey first named a gritter in 2015, calling it “Gritty Gonzales.” Naming gritters is now a global trend.

For winter 2024/25, Amey has ample supplies, including 24,000 tonnes of salt, 231,000 litres of brine, and 50,000 litres of potassium acetate.

Amey’s Roddy Clark spoke about winter. He acknowledged Scotland’s winter causes travel issues and praised their often-overlooked winter team.

Clark mentioned the popularity of naming gritters, stating it highlights their safety efforts. He believes the world has embraced the initiative.

Amey is partnering with Beano this year to celebrate ten years of promoting winter safety. Bananaman is a well-known Beano character.

Beano’s Mike Stirling expressed his excitement, describing Bananaman as super confident. After 45 years, he’s a true hero facing his grittiest adventure.

Stirling highlighted their great humor, which the winter team displayed even amidst tough challenges. “Brrr…Nanaman” helps on bendy roads. Stirling joked that Scotland’s roads should not be iced.
