Residents express disgust over escalating litter issues on Baneswell streets near Newport city centre.

Pamela Parker described the mess as “vile.” She said Albert Terrace used to be clean. Now, there are bin bags and fly-tipping everywhere. Some people don’t bother using bins or the tip. She thinks dumpers should keep trash on their own street. She feels Baneswell now looks like a “third world country.”
Neighbors say the problem has been getting worse. Charlotte Davies moved there five years ago. She never saw this much rubbish before, and more trash appears daily on their street. To improve the situation, she thinks something must change quickly.
Cynthia Kinnell walks her dog often and always picks up after her dog. Seeing the fly-tipping is awful, she said. She feels ashamed of where she lives now and wants black bags kept in gardens. She says Albert Terrace, East Street, and St. Mary’s Street are all filthy.
Evrim and Yusuf Yelsin feel more threatened. They say the area is becoming unsafe, and they fear going out after dark now. They really want the street lights turned back on.
Newport council leader Dimitri Batrouni promised to restore lights. Baneswell residents say littering is an ongoing problem. The council clears it, but then it reappears.
Pamela and Michael Parker got a home camera. Sadly, it doesn’t show the trash area. Pamela Parker contacted Newport City Council and asked them to then remove the rubbish.
