Daniel Jones jailed 40 weeks for abusing kittens Maisey & Odin. He is also banned from owning animals for 5 years.

Jones initially denied wrongdoing last June. Then, he changed his plea on September 2nd. He admitted to three animal welfare offenses at court. He abused Maisey and Odin, and failed to protect them from harm.
In 2023, Jones took Maisey to a vet, claiming he stepped on her at home. Maisey was crying and moving her legs. She was dead upon arrival and wet.
The vet saw major trauma signs that matched someone treading or stamping. Her chest was hurt, and she got jaw bruising. Her eye bulged, with blood in her mouth. X-rays saw fractures, a broken rib, and lung damage.
Jones took Odin to the vet in November, saying Odin ran into an Xbox three days before. He first said it was on a shelf. Later, he stated the Xbox was on the floor. Odin was wet, cold, and hurt badly.
Jones said he bathed both kittens, despite the vet advising against this action. The kittens seemed nervous when someone held them. A vet report questioned Jones’ explanations later. Both kittens sustained severe injuries.
An expert ruled both cats suffered physical abuse. Maisey likely died due to lung failure after her fractured rib. Jones will go to jail for forty weeks, and he also cannot own animals for five years.
The court heard Jones had mental health issues related to using cannabis. Besides the ban and jail time, the judge also required him to pay a victim surcharge. This payment totals £187.
Inspector Miranda Albinson commented after the decision that vets saw these kittens often. Jones caused their injuries. Maisey died from the abuse, and Odin was saved from more suffering.
These kittens depended on Jones. This abuse gets investigated, and justice will be sought to prevent further animal harm. Odin has mobility issues now. Happily, someone adopted him, and he will get love and care now.
