A dispersal order was issued in Basingstoke town centre due to reports of antisocial behaviour during the Let’s Glow event.

Inspector Willetts authorized the order for Basingstoke. It was a Section 35 dispersal order. They got reports of bad behavior, which happened during the Let’s Glow event. This took place in and near the town center.
The Let’s Glow event drew many families. They came to see a free light show that happened over three nights at the Top of the Town and War Memorial Park.
A police person said that the order followed reports. These reports involved groups of young people in the town center this weekend. Police want people to enjoy the “Let’s Glow” festival and also want to support local businesses.
Police can make the area bigger if needed, and officers are ready to enforce the order. The Section 35 order helps deal with issues and addresses anti-social behavior more effectively.
It falls under the Crime and Policing Act, meaning the police have extra powers. Officers can order people to leave the area and can’t come back during that time. If someone doesn’t follow the order, it’s a crime and people refusing can be arrested.
