The Bay Horse pub in Hurworth wins “best food offer in the UK 2025” at the Stonegate Awards, beating 3500 competitors.
The pub competed against 3500 others, all owned by Stonegate. Many were top dining spots from London, the North West and Yorkshire.
Judges were impressed by the Bay Horse when they visited in October. They liked the menu’s creativity and the excellent service. The food offering also changed often.
Katie Thirkell, the general manager, is very proud of the pub. They won against two other finalists: The Queen Inn and The Ship Inn.
The Michelin Guide also listed The Bay Horse, which has won several awards recently. Katie says the award validates them nationally. It shows judges like their food and that they like flying the flag for the North East.
The North East has great pubs and restaurants. The award reflects team effort, as The Bay Horse supports local suppliers. They champion North East and North Yorkshire food.
Katie says they adapt and stay exciting, avoiding complacency. The new head chef brought great ideas, which shows in the food quality.
Katie wants to maintain their high standards. The pub bought a cottage near the pub and now offer overnight stays. This enhances the customer experience.
Katie is proud of her hardworking staff. They want to reach and exceed their own high goals, and they plan to do so in the coming years.
