A barber went to jail after a police chase on the M2 highway. The barber, Bakay Behdjet, sped away from officers on the A2 highway near Cobham. This occurred just past midnight on August 8th last year.

Behdjet received a 12-month jail sentence at the Maidstone court. He drove his girlfriend’s Audi TT at speeds up to 140mph and drove recklessly. He passed cars dangerously, swerved onto exit ramps, and ran a red light.

The 33-year-old only had a learner’s permit and no insurance. Police lost sight of him but found the Audi later that night abandoned in Maidstone. The incident happened after a fight, and he took his girlfriend’s car then.

He admitted he sped off when he saw police lights, stating that he was scared. Behdjet claimed he did not know how fast he went. He pleaded guilty to several charges, including dangerous driving and driving without insurance.

The judge stated that he got lucky no one died. The prosecution lacked key details about the chase, such as the exact time or distance. The judge called this information “fundamental,” as officers did not include it in their reports, and there was no dashcam footage.

The judge noted the chase lasted a while and Behdjet showed a “deliberate disregard” for safety. He drove up to 140 mph during the chase and also drove through a red light. The judge told Behdjet he was lucky as he could have killed someone.

Behdjet has past convictions for vehicle theft and failing to stop. He is now banned from driving again for 18 months and must pay £1,000 in court fees. He was released right away though, as he already served time in jail.
