Calum Miller, the MP representing Bicester and Woodstock, wants government assurance for Bicester. Bicester plans to build 7,750 new homes by 2042, a proposition put forth by Cherwell District Council in their Local Plan. A £600 million theme park is also in the works, alongside other local developments like Great Wolf Lodge.

Residents are expressing concern that expansion is being prioritized over essential services. Miller emphasizes that Bicester is an attractive location for both families and businesses.

Miller is advocating for infrastructure development to keep pace with Bicester’s growth. Recent power outages at local schools, including Cooper School and Glory Farm School, highlight the issue of insufficient national grid supply.

Miller urged energy ministers to take preventative measures against future outages by reinforcing local energy infrastructure. He notes the existing pressure on many services. For example, GP practices need funding to accommodate the growing patient population.

Bicester is slated to be part of the Oxford-Cambridge growth area, a topic Rachel Reeves recently discussed in Oxfordshire. Many residents believe that Bicester’s growth is happening at the expense of essential services. They’re seeking commitments to improve roads, schools, healthcare, and utilities.

Miller has pledged to engage with ministers and local authorities to ensure sustainable growth through proper planning. This is so that they meet the needs of both current and future residents.

North Oxfordshire Resident Action (NORA) was formed by residents who are concerned about over-development in Bicester. Their worries include poor infrastructure and planning. NORA feels there is little infrastructure improvements. They want better joined-up thinking from local government.

Cherwell District Council maintains that their Local Plan adequately addresses the needs of the community. It also focuses on addressing climate change and environmental protection. The council additionally aims to support local economy and communities. A consultation on the Local Plan 2042 is open until February 25.

The council welcomes feedback from resident groups. They accept this input during both planning applications and Local Plan stages.
