Bill Borrett left Norfolk County Council last month. He used to handle public health there.

Kay Mason Billig leads the County Hall. She said Borrett’s views on devolution made his job hard. He disagreed on postponing elections.

Now, Borrett has a new job. Breckland Council hired him a month later. He is now in charge of devolution work. Sam Chapman-Allen leads Breckland Council. He announced Borrett’s new role on Monday.

Chapman-Allen has criticized the government’s plans. Borrett’s role includes an allowance of £12,586. Chapman-Allen said the work is extensive, and Borrett will support him with this.

Borrett represents Elmham and Mattishall, and he also represents Upper Wensum. Chapman-Allen said Borrett has lots of experience. The local government will reorganize; eight Norfolk councils will change.

They will create new unitary authorities. Councils need to propose changes soon. The deadline is the end of next month. Borrett will be key in this process. The government will impose plans if agreement fails.

Breckland is the first to create this role; it’s specifically for reorganization and devolution. They are serious about these upcoming government changes.
