Two Birmingham men are among six arrested for smuggling migrants into Europe in small boats since 2022.

Two of the men, ages 25 and 28, were arrested in Birmingham, England. The other four men were arrested in Leicester, Essex, and South London.
Prosecutors in Belgium shared information that the men transported migrants from Afghanistan through Iran, Turkey, and the Balkans. Their final destinations were often France and Belgium, and they frequently used small boats.
This criminal group reportedly started operating in 2022 and used social media platforms to reach and communicate with migrants.
Three men appeared in court yesterday at Westminster Magistrates’ Court, where extradition proceedings began. The other three men are scheduled to appear in court today.
Craig Turner, from the National Crime Agency, stated the men belonged to a dangerous network involved in moving migrants across the globe, through Europe, and into the UK.
Turner also stated that their work won’t stop until they dismantle these criminal gangs, planning to work with international partners to bring perpetrators to court.
According to Turner, organized immigration crime is a constant threat. They currently have 70 active investigations targeting the gangs involved.
Dame Angela Eagle, a government minister, said these arrests demonstrate commitment. Teams work to tackle criminal gangs abroad and ensure those involved face prosecution.
The government will pursue anyone threatening border security, working with international partners to stop criminal activity and save lives.
