Construction paused on the Bishop Auckland STACK due to structural issues and funding needs.

Neill Winch is STACK’s CEO. He said they, STACK, are still committed and want to fix the funding problem. STACK has venues in other cities and plans to open in Durham City too.
The new venue will have bars and food, and a central plaza is part of the design. The plans passed in 2023. Delays occurred before and after demolition, when an old store was torn down.
Rob Yorke calls it a “funding stalemate” and thinks progress is slow. Mr. Winch says funding isn’t the reason for the delays. He said building movement caused the pause, and nearby buildings are being supported.
Work was paused as a safety measure and will restart when it is safe. STACK thanks the community and want to deliver a great venue.
Durham County Council is helping and wants a permanent fix to the problems. Graham Wood said costs are a challenge. They will help get the project done because the project will help the town.
