Motorways shut after body found on M4 near Bristol. Police investigate how the person ended up on the road.

The body was between junctions 20 and 21. That’s close to Almondsbury Interchange. It’s also near Awkley. Drivers called the police around 6:40 PM, reporting they saw something on the road. Police arrived and found human remains there.
The M4 and M48 closed for investigation. Both roads have now reopened. Police are trying to identify this person and find the family. Cops are figuring out how someone ended up on the road.
The closures affected areas near two bridges: the Severn Bridge M48 and the Prince of Wales Bridge. The Severn Crossing stayed open during the closure. Traffic Officers turned cars around, with police assistance, said National Highways.
One driver posted online that their family was stuck since 7 PM, without supplies. Another person said her parents were stuck, too. They needed facilities. National Highways said turning vehicles around took time and was complex due to the volume.
Drivers were warned not to turn around themselves because it was too dangerous. Use caution and wait for police. The M5 link also closed. It connected south to M4’s junction 20 west.
They advised drivers going between England and Wales to prepare. Expect long delays on those routes. The M4 closed between junctions 20 and 22, between Almondsbury and the Severn Bridges. The M48 closed between junction 1 and the M4 itself. The M5 link from junction 15 south to M4 junction 20 west closed. A link from M5 junction 16 north to M4 junction 20 west also shut.
