Annual reflection encourages remembrance in Selkirk. Supports those affected by suicide through walks, music, and resources.

It’s a yearly thing happening for the sixth time. The After a Suicide Working Group organizes it. NHS Borders and the Scottish Borders Council help too. The Samaritans and other groups offer extra help.
You can find info on support at the Creating Hope website. Volunteers will offer support and resources there. The event starts with a walk. We’ll walk from the car park to the Clootie Tree. An interfaith minister will lead the walk.
People can think about loved ones during the walk. They can tie ribbons to the tree. The Health in Harmony Choir will sing songs. Plus, they’ll show off the Clootie Tree poem too.
Someone from NHS Borders says suicide impacts communities a lot. He hopes the event helps those who’ve lost someone. It helps them celebrate those lives and feel supported. Afterward, snacks and support await everyone at the Samaritans office. It’s in Selkirk, so not far!
They want people to seek help if they feel down. Call your doctor. You can reach NHS24 at 111 for mental health support. The Samaritans’ number is 116 123. Breathing Space is at 0800 838587.
