Bournemouth Central reports the highest violent crimes in BCP. Police are increasing patrols and victim support.

In 2023/24, police received 2.2 million reports of violent or sexual crimes, encompassing crimes like assault, GBH, rape, and murder. These figures have tripled in the last decade, making last year one of the worst for crime in England.
Bournemouth Central’s crime rate for violent and sexual crimes is significantly higher, at 280, compared to nearby areas in BCP, with 462 reported crimes in the area. In contrast, Poole Town, also within BCP, reported a crime rate of 236 and 181 violent and sexual crimes.
Violence and sexual offences remain prevalent, with 11,547 reported offences in 2023, equating to a rate of 35 per 1,000 residents. In 2024, the Dorset Council area recorded 725 serious sexual offences and 3,965 domestic abuse incidents.
According to the State of Dorset 2024 crime report, domestic abuse incidents have risen by 2 percent since the last financial year. Chief Superintendent Heather Dixey emphasized the police’s commitment to supporting victims and holding offenders accountable.
While Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Poole are generally safe, Chief Superintendent Heather Dixey stated the police address violent and sexual crimes seriously. In response, police have increased patrols in tourist hotspots such as the seafront and town center, working alongside the BCP Council’s town team.
The implementation of “Op Track” targets problem areas, deploying officers to patrol areas with anti-social behavior and violent crime. Last month, officers dedicated 600 hours to these patrols, taking necessary action.
As a result of increased police presence, there has been a noticeable decrease in both anti-social behavior and violent crime. The increased police presence has garnered positive feedback from the local community.
