A bowls club in Hove is now allowed to sell alcohol, despite objections from concerned local residents.

Neighbors living near the club aren’t happy and complained about noise at a meeting. They said past complaints weren’t handled well. Eleven people objected to the new license.
The police and council didn’t object. The club followed all the guidelines. They first wanted to sell drinks until 1 AM, but now will stop at midnight.
Three councilors made the decision, considering everyone’s concerns. There had been problems previously, and relations between the club and neighbors were strained.
The panel had to judge fairly. A big thing: no outdoor music is allowed. Noise rules are strict, too, and the club has agreed to these rules.
The club will make sure events stay inside, ensuring people can’t walk on the grass. Hove and Kingsway Bowling Club is quite old, as it started way back in 1896.
The club has many members, around 700, ranging in age from 13 to 95 years old. The clubhouse has space for 140 people. Neighbors can appeal this decision and have 21 days to do so.
