Hey, guess what’s happening in Rathfriland? They are building a new boxing club and community hub. It will replace some old, empty buildings on Dromore Street. They finally got permission to start the project.

Marcus Bingham Architectural Design Services planned it all for the Rathfriland CC Amateur Boxing Club. The building will have two floors with cool stuff, including gyms, training areas, and boxing rings. A small community hub will be located on the ground floor.

The new building is two stories tall and will step down the hill, with number seven a bit higher than number nine. The roof will use natural slate, and the walls will be rendered in different colors.

Both floors will have similar facilities; they set the ground and first floors at the same level, which works well for the building’s plan. There will also be an alley behind the building.

The architect changed the floor plans last December to help with noise, ensuring the boxing club won’t easily send noise to nearby houses now. They isolated the building’s structure, so even with normal use, noise shouldn’t bother anyone.

They will install a ventilation system that keeps the windows shut while it’s running. Nobody complained about the plans, even though the location is in an Area of Townscape Character.

The buildings they’re taking down are not great and don’t help the area’s look. Both buildings are missing parts of their roofs; the fronts have big holes and wooden panels.

The new design is much better and will make the town look nicer. Everyone seems happy with this improvement. They will use current public parking, including Castle Street and Church Square, as well as street parking.

The boxing club will have set hours, open on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 7 pm to 8:30 pm. Tuesdays and Thursdays are from 7 pm to 8 pm, and Sundays are from 11 am to 12 pm.

Three coaches will be there, with a maximum of twenty boxers attending. The facility plans are detailed and include a training area, gym, and community hub. There’s also a foyer, lobby, and meeting room with a kitchen, plus toilets and changing rooms. A boxing ring will be in the center on both floors.

The club plans to offer similar things on both floors. That’s the story!
