FOI request reveals post renovation utility and security costs for Bradford Live, totaling over £125,000.

The Council provided a cost breakdown, including VAT, revealing that electricity cost £24,363.20 from July to December, and gas cost £4,772.08 from July to November. Water cost £2,202.35 between July and October, while security cost £93,757.80 from July to December; these expenses totaled £125,095.43.
Last year, the T&A noted concerns about lights being left on at night, despite Bradford Live not yet being open after a £50.5 million renovation.
A Council spokesperson responded, stating that Bradford Live has security and has been upgraded, with sustainability as a key focus, and that all lighting is now energy-efficient LEDs. The building uses motion-sensitive lights on a low energy setting, increasing savings and efficiency.
Bradford Council chose Trafalgar Entertainment as the new operator for Bradford Live, and Sir Howard Panter spoke about the venue hosting music, comedy, and shows featuring big stars. This followed the NEC Group’s withdrawal from the project about six months ago, citing a focus on Birmingham operations.
The Council says Bradford Live will open this coming autumn, before culture celebrations occur.
Recently, the T&A, acting on behalf of their readers, asked more questions, and the Council plans to give details soon via a Q&A session at Bradford Live.
