Hey, so check this out about Willesden. They want to turn that old Lloyds Bank into a bingo hall. You know, the one that closed last March on Walm Lane. Council planners suggest approving it.

They think the bingo hall shouldn’t stay open past midnight. This is because some people worry about too many gambling places. Remember Cllr Butt? Last year, he asked the government to change gambling laws.

He wanted bingo halls in the same category as betting shops. This would stop them dodging rules, he said. He also wants councils to reject risky gambling licenses.

The current law says councils must allow licenses if they meet rules. Bingo halls aren’t like betting shops in planning rules. Brent planners say the bingo hall fits with their policies now.

Star Commercial Property wants the bingo hall open late daily. The bank used to close earlier. The planners think the hours should be shorter to help neighbors.

Nearby betting shops close at 10 p.m. The applicant says it will improve the area. A new entrance and window display are planned. Brent councillors will decide about it soon.

They are expected to vote on Wednesday (February 10). The government didn’t comment about changing the law earlier.
