A man near Armadale brickworks worries about noise. Council work on the site was agreed last week. Mark Harrison lives twelve feet from the site; he might move because of his business ideas.

Plans to develop the brickworks surprised Harrison. It went before the council’s committee last week, and the fence is very close to his front door. He fears a road will run there too. Councillors said yes to filling a quarry and OK’d building 550 homes there. Harrison lives so close, but he only learned about it from a report.

He worries about years of disturbance because ground work and building will cause it all. He wants to start a business in the future, restoring cars and making steel things. He fears the area could change.

Harrison talked to the site’s owners, asking about his access road. He also wrote to planners with his worries but says he heard nothing afterward. He fears the housing plans could hurt his business. He wants to have a metalwork shop to fix and build cars there.

The council says neighbors can speak up later and share views on detailed plans. This will happen when plans come back to the committee. Harrison moved there in 2003. It was a farmhouse in open land back then. Now houses are on the south side of his property, and a road may be by his front door.

He knew something would be built there but was told the greenbelt was safe. It is not safe now, according to Harrison. New houses are close to his back garden now, and residents put up taller fences there, providing extra screening.

Harrison misses his old view of fields and cows. AC Land got permission to fill the quarry; they can also build 550 homes. A nearby business shares Harrison’s worries. ECCS fears they may have to move, as new homes could complain about noise.

Willie Connolly runs ECCS and fears the plans could hurt the business. They might not be able to add machinery. The firm has been there for 22 years and recycles pipework, so creating noise matters. Both ECCS and Harrison report fly-tipping often, having found evidence and told the police.

AC Land plans to start land work soon. More detailed housing plans will come later. The council says they notified all the neighbors. Many neighbors sent them comments, which went to the committee for review. More detailed plans need approval still. Neighbors will get notified about these plans and can share comments at that point as well.
