New Lidl store approved near Bridgwater’s Huntworth roundabout, featuring ample parking after consultations and objections.

The store is pretty big, about 2,270 square metres, and will include 105 parking spots. Six will be accessible spaces for disabled people, and nine spaces are for parents with children. Two spaces have EV charging spots. There will also be parking for motorbikes plus twelve bicycles.
Lidl first filed plans in January 2024 and consulted about 6,000 local homes. Many people and businesses commented on the plans following the initial submission date.
Morrisons objected to the new Lidl store in October 2024, saying the site would clash with local plans. They think the store will hurt the town center because it is outside and people will drive there. They worry about the existing Lidl, which is already in the central area.
Bridgwater already has a Lidl store, built in 2018 and located at the Leggar Retail Park. Morrisons asked Lidl to assess the impact on the town.
North Petherton Council supports the application, saying Lidl answered their initial worries in October 2024.
