Bridgwater Penlea House Cladding Removal Plans Approved
Penlea House was torn down in early 2023. A new four-story building will replace it. It’ll have 33 apartments and parking spots. There will also be bike and bin storage.
The old Penlea House was part of a larger estate. That estate dates back to the 1800s near Rhode Lane. The Hamp estate grew in the 1960s. It eventually surrounded the Penlea Estate.
Planners approved the new building in January 2021. Many people opposed the project then. Over one hundred signed a petition. Councillors Redman and Leavy also objected. They thought it was too big.
Homes in Sedgemoor shows the new building. It now has thirty social housing apartments. The teal cladding was for adding color. Other colors were kept for the building. They are light gray, medium gray, and off-white render.
Homes in Sedgemoor also manages Westfield House. Westfield House is the tallest building in Bridgwater. It has ten floors and 61 apartments. They renovated it in 2023. That was its first overhaul since 1965.
