The Bread Shed opens at NPL Community Centre, offering affordable groceries and community activities amid cost of living crisis.

The NPL Community Centre now includes The Bread Shed, providing help with the living cost crisis and offering community activities for everyone, including breakfast clubs.
Abi Sturdy leads the NPL Community Centre. She celebrated the store’s official opening as the mayor cut the ribbon with supporters.
The store started with three shelves in the hallway and was first known as “our beloved Pantry.” It has now grown into its own shop.
The NPL Bread Shed is the community’s social supermarket, helping with food poverty and the cost of living. “Helping Our People Eat” is their motto.
Membership is required to shop there. You can apply on the NPL Community Centre Facebook page, or find paper forms at the Community Centre location.
Abi is proud of the store’s growth and feels privileged to help so many people. They will continue to dedicate time toward the store, accepting in-date food and cash.
The store’s proceeds go back into the store to cover staff costs and restocking items needed fast.
