The Bridport Bandits moved their base recently. They used to be at the Bridport Youth Centre. Now, they’re at an old rifle range that the Army owns. This building is behind the youth center.

The Army gave them the space temporarily, allowing the Bandits to use it for six months. The Army considered selling the land then, but now has no plans to sell it.

The Bandits can now stay until the year’s end. They are also seeking new members, and generous donations of new lights came to the club, raising over £3,500. This money will help them get a new van.

John Russell heads the club. He said they moved and are organizing things, figuring out where everything belongs. Andy King donated lights from Weymouth, and water is being installed soon.

Russell said certainty is good for ten months, explaining that they aren’t fully secured. However, it is the best situation right now, even as they continue seeking a permanent home in case the Army sells.

He mentioned the community’s fundraising, stating that it’s going well. They raised £3,500 so far, which buys a basic van now. They hope to raise even more money too.

The Bridport Round Table gave £2,000, a donation that goes to the van fund. Someone anonymously gave £500 as well, and Russell stated they appreciate all of the support.

Edward Morello, West Dorset’s MP, supports the Bridport Bandits. He’s happy they can stay for another year and wants them to find a permanent home soon.

He wants karting and maintenance opportunities for young people, and he says he will help them however he can. The MOD has confirmed they do not plan to sell.

The Bandits faced closure earlier as the youth center raised its rent. It went from £175 to around £338 monthly, a change the club reported they could not afford.

The club has helped many find motor industry jobs. They worked with schools teaching mechanics, where students learn life skills, and kids safely enjoy motorsport too.
