Someone wants to convert an old club. It is the former Brierfield Liberal Club on Cross Street into a care home for young adults.

Umar Iftikhar submitted the plans to convert the old site, which has been closed for eight to ten years, into seven bedsits. Pendle Council looked at the plans and approved the conversion project, giving it the green light.

The application’s papers explain that the site will house young people sixteen or older, offering them short-term housing and help when needed. Two staff members will manage the site each weekday from 9am to 5pm, with weekend shifts running from 10am to 4pm, to support the young people.

Plans display the ground floor changes, which include turning it into one big open space with a shared kitchen and lounge. Two meeting rooms, two bathrooms, a laundry room, a staff kitchen, and an office are also planned.

Upstairs, seven bedrooms will be set around a lounge on the landing, along with an extra kitchen, a shared bathroom, and a shower. Every bedroom includes a window, and one room offers a large bay window to let in extra sunlight improving quality of life there.

The club already has parking spaces for four vehicles off-road, and the project will keep these parking spots for staff and visitors, offering convenience. The property is near town; Brierfield’s town centre and the train station are a short walk away, making everything easily accessible.

A planning officer approved it, finding no strong reasons to reject it, but conditions were placed upon the approval to guide the project ahead. Privacy is very important, so windows on the first floor will have obscured glazing to protect neighbors and residents living there.
