A British tourist got hurt badly in Spain. The attack happened in a popular holiday spot. Marshall Latham is in the hospital now, and he is in a coma. He is retired and used to work as a carpenter. Doctors worry he may never recover fully. They think he might not walk or talk again.

Marshall, age 68, vacationed with his partner, Lynn. They were in Fuerteventura when the attack happened. Marshall is from Nantwich, Cheshire, and he has a traumatic brain injury. Doctors do not expect him to recover. This injury has changed his life a lot, and his family feels very upset by the news.

Friends said someone punched Marshall after he walked back to his place after drinks. He fell and hit his head hard, and he then lost consciousness right away. He needed to go to Gran Canaria hospital where doctors removed part of his skull. They also did a tracheotomy to help him breathe.

Doctors drained fluid from his brain to help reduce pressure. He got pneumonia twice while getting help. Police arrested a British man for the attack. He supposedly tried to fly to Glasgow, and witnesses say this attack was unprovoked– the two men did not argue beforehand.

This terrible attack occurred last December 10. Information about Marshall’s injuries just came out. He was walking back after having drinks when someone he did not know punched him. He fell and hit his head really hard, where the concrete floor caused serious damage.

The punch knocked Marshall unconscious right away. Someone called an ambulance quickly to get help. The Puerto del Rosario hospital treated him first. They intubated and ventilated him properly, and a CT scan revealed two skull fractures along with bleeding near his brain area.

Surgeons worried he might not survive the flight as his injuries seemed extremely severe at that point. Surgeons removed 14cm of Marshall’s skull to reduce the pressure on his brain. He stayed sedated and used a ventilator, and the ICU monitored him closely.

Marshall visits the island often with Lynn, and they go three or four times each year. Lynn had returned to their apartment already, and Marshall stayed for one more drink that night. He was walking home when the attack happened, where he hit his head hard in that area near a taxi rank.

Marshall’s brother-in-law shared some sad details. He thinks the attacker got kicked out of a bar earlier on that same night. Marshall had never been in trouble before ever, and he was simply on holiday with his partner. It sounds like a random act.
