Local photographer Jayne Bond wins prestigious Image of the Year Award for photo taken at London Zoo.

The awards show happened in Stoke-on-Trent on February 1st. Jayne won Image of the Year in Nature and Wildlife. Her photo then got another honor. Judges chose it for overall Image of the Year, and members chose it as the Members’ Choice Image.
Jayne felt very honored by the awards. She felt humble and overwhelmed that both judges and members chose her image.
In 2024, she learned about baby gorillas and took a train to London. Jayne wanted to photograph them and stayed at the gorilla area all day.
She waited patiently for a great moment, watching them come and go for four hours. The gorilla babies were feeding, and she had a few seconds when the mama had her arm around them. The perfect shot finally happened.
She used a Canon R5 camera and edited the photo just a little, darkening the background to keep the focus on the gorillas.
Jayne used to teach in Bournemouth. Now retired, she enjoys photography, photographing nature and wildlife and often visiting Dorset beauty spots.
Foxes are her local favorite. Jayne said they are full of character, but people mistreat them a lot. Still, they are amazing creatures.
Jayne wants to photograph gorillas in the wild and see other exotic animals. She has plans to travel more.
She has been to India a few times, as well as Alaska and Europe. She photographs pelicans in Greece every year, going to Lake Kerkini.
