Buckinghamshire Council works with Thames Valley Police. They want people to protect their vehicles. The Community Safety Team got project funding from the Police & Crime Commissioner.

They use the money for actions like car campaigns and pop-up events. These actions include signs and number plate screws. Cars with visible items get a visit during the campaigns.

Officers look for wallets, handbags, and cash. Owners then receive a prevention letter giving advice on how to keep their cars safe. Pop-up events provide similar advice to people and have signal-blocking pouches available.

Signs warn about vehicle crime hot spots, targeting beauty spots and pub car parks. Kwik Fit helps by providing anti-theft screws. Eight local garages now offer this free service to prevent number plate theft.

People receive extras when getting the screws, including air fresheners and ice scrapers. Vehicle stickers and leaflets convey helpful tips. Garages track the screw installations, which helps to track the project’s overall effects.

The council wants to lower vehicle crime and hopes people will take steps to protect their cars. Simple steps can make cars less tempting to thieves. Don’t leave valuables where they are easily visible.
