A burglar went to jail after a trap caught him. It happened at a home in Northumberland. Paul Howell, age 56, tried to break into a house in Blyth. He ran off when water soaked his feet. He tripped a string before 3 AM on November 9; the police shared this.

Homeowners set the trap after hearing about attempted burglaries.

Police arrested Howell and charged him with attempted burglary. The residents reviewed security camera footage. Howell also lived in Blyth. The movie Home Alone is from the 1990s, where Kevin McCallister set traps to defend his home from burglars.

Howell faced charges for two more burglaries that occurred a week later. He broke into another home in Blyth and stole bikes and jewelry. Police found many stolen items at Howell’s home. He admitted guilt at court in December.

The court sentenced him to three years and seven months on Tuesday.
Detective Constable Jon Mullen led the case. He stated burglary makes people feel unsafe and added Howell is a repeat offender. Now, he will spend a lot of time in jail.
