Burnley proposes a 2% tax rise after a financial turnaround. Budget focuses on safety, environment, and green spaces.

The finance boss, Cllr Lishman, spoke Wednesday. She said the budget is better than expected. They thought they would overspend by £98,000. Now, they expect to underspend by £11,000. They propose a two percent council tax increase.
A typical Band D house will pay £344.58 yearly. This is £6.76 more per year for 2025/2026. Band A homes will pay £229.72. Band B homes will pay £268.01 annually. These are for terraced houses in those bands.
The budget focuses on key things. They want town centers to be safer. They also plan to enforce environmental rules. They will address antisocial behavior further. Maintaining green spaces is another priority.
The allowance freeze rejects a pay raise. The council panel suggested an 8.5% rise over three years. Cllr Lishman stated they carefully watch finances. She added this budget is solid.
Residents told them this. Council leader Cllr Anwar commented on allowances. He said they are setting an example. They understand the rising cost of living. Anwar said the council listened to residents.
Lancashire policing costs will increase taxes. This will be the maximum allowed, 5.31%. Lancashire County Council will also raise taxes. A 2.99% general increase is planned.
Another 2% goes to adult social care. This is a 4.99% total increase. Band D bills will rise by £82.50 yearly. The Fire Authority wants to increase its costs too. This will be £4.00, or 5.9 percent.
