Burnley Council revoked Proj3kt’s license on Hammerton Street. The Licensing Act 2003 Sub Committee made this decision. Lancashire Police requested a review of the license focusing on preventing crime and protecting children.

The committee heard evidence of drug dealing and violence. They also learned children were inside the nightclub, some as young as thirteen years old.

Proj3kt’s owners, Jason and Rebecca McQuoid, plan to appeal. Their company is Mode Property Ltd, and they will challenge the decision in court.

The owners criticized the police for a lack of presence, stating this impacts Burnley’s nighttime safety. The documented incidents showed only 7% related to their customers.

The owners believe better policing is needed, as nighttime businesses cannot police external streets. Door staff cannot leave the property easily due to insurance restrictions.

The club owners feel late-night venues are unfairly targeted because they cannot manage the streets. They plan to campaign for police schedule changes to create a safer nighttime economy for everyone.

Mode nightclub, also run by them, closed in 2023 after its license was previously revoked. Councillor Anne Kelly discussed the Proj3kt decision.

The committee felt all licensing goals were unmet and were very worried about violence at Proj3kt. The committee believed illegal drugs were being sold, and they confirmed underage alcohol sales also occurred there.

A thirteen-year-old even got inside the club. Police were asked to share their own comments.
