Amended proposals submitted for the Cornhill Walk Shopping Centre redevelopment in Bury St Edmunds. Shops, housing, and parking planned.

Remember Cornhill Walk in Bury St Edmunds? It looks awful now. It’s right in the town center, so it is a prime spot.
Past plans wanted shops with apartments. These plans failed back in 2018. A new plan was submitted a while ago.
Knightspur Homes made some changes to it. But the council hasn’t decided anything yet. The newest idea includes shops and housing. They also planned parking spaces.
Initially, they wanted 45 apartments with 47 parking spots. Now, new changes remove two townhouses. So, they launched another public consultation. It ends on February 19th. The council might review it in April.
A local councillor, Cliff Waterman, spoke up. He wants a nice design that helps the area. He also wants everyone to share their thoughts. The councillor wants the council to closely examine it. He will help residents express their wishes.
He wants a good result for the town center. The councillor does not want past mistakes repeated. People are tired of the delays.
A resident, Pauline Judge, is frustrated. She hopes the new residents’ lives will be easier. She wants the project completed also. Another resident, Rowland Smith, is not impressed. He thinks the design is still poor.
