Bury St Edmunds will gain thirteen affordable homes. This is thanks to a town center project. A former post office site helped make it happen.

The homes are on the town’s edge. Havebury Housing Partnership owns them. West Suffolk Council gave over £1 million. The Old Post Office redevelopment gave £158,322.

The site will have 166 Havebury properties soon. Ten homes have affordable rents. They have two or three bedrooms. Three homes have four bedrooms. Social rent rates apply.

Diane Hind, a West Suffolk Council member, spoke about the need. She said they used funds from the post office job. The funds allowed more affordable housing.

More housing came from the Post Office project and they still have £300,000 left. They plan to use it similarly soon to boost affordable housing.

A Havebury person said four homes remain and workers will hand them over in October. Havebury’s CEO, Andrew Smith, also commented that Council support allowed thirteen homes.

The homes provide residents safe places and rents are also affordable, he said. Partnership helps them achieve their goals.
