A person living there wants better road safety. He fears a bad accident could happen soon.

People live on Sicklesmere Road in Bury St Edmunds. They find it risky pulling out of their drives. Traffic controls create long lines of cars there now. It is hard for people to cross the A134 after leaving home.

Tailbacks block their view of oncoming traffic. Roads are very busy. Since last May, traffic control measures affected the road. Utilities installation for Abbot Vale caused this.

One resident wants convex mirrors on the road. These mirrors would help neighbors see cars better. “We worry a lot when maneuvering our cars,” he stated. Stationary traffic and bad visibility cause issues.

“My wife and I almost got hit separately,” he explained. “Other people down the road report near accidents.” “I even saw a car get hit already,” the resident said. He thinks a serious crash is likely to happen.

He said residents feel they must protect their lives. They feel frustrated by this responsibility. He does not want anyone to get hurt. The resident spoke to Suffolk Highways about his concerns.

He also wanted a risk assessment from the council. He was not happy with their response. Suffolk Highways are aware of the complaints. They have been asked for a statement.

Weekend road closures are scheduled until May 5. Hopkins Homes works affect this major road. They construct a roundabout as part of Abbots Vale.
