Petition urges extending the 3/3A bus route to Oxford Station, addressing transport connectivity concerns. Minibus proposals also surface.

Councillor Brad Baines commented on the frustration Iffley Road residents feel regarding the 3/3A bus, arguing it hinders transport connectivity. He has repeatedly written to the bus company, who deemed the idea unprofitable due to traffic at the Plain Roundabout. Baines disputes this, pointing out that the 1 and 5 buses still serve the station via Cowley Road.
Recent changes to bus services, implemented on February 23, include more frequent 3/3A buses, running every 15 minutes on weekdays. The 5A bus now offers a faster route to Templars Square using Crowell Road, and a new 600 bus connects Redbridge to Thornhill Park & Ride, including hospital stops along its route.
The proposed Templars Square minibus would follow Route 46, connecting Greater Leys and Cowley Centre. The route would also serve Hershel Crescent and incorporate Donnington Bridge.
Councillor Trish Elphinstone welcomes the new 600 service and the increased frequency of the 3A bus, but highlighted the challenges faced by North Littlemore residents. Emphasizing the need for a bus service on Herschel Crescent, she supports the introduction of a new minibus to address these concerns.
Councillor Imade Edosomwan stated Leys residents feel isolated since the 3A bus route changed to use Grenoble Road. She advocates for a safe crossing on Grenoble Road, which has a 40mph speed limit, and for the reinstatement of the old minibus route.
In a 2024 bus survey conducted by the Labour group, hospital trips were identified as a significant challenge. Councillor Charlie Hicks noted that many participants found these trips difficult. While the new 600 bus provides some relief, there is still a need for further improvements.
Many people struggle to reach the train station, citing issues with bus prices and ticketing. Infrequent buses and a desire for more reliable service and better route integration were also frequently reported. Overall, there is consensus that more needs to be done.
